MediaPlayerConnectivity: useful Firefox addon for Linux users

Some websites are just not Linux-friendly. In particular, those that provide streaming video, but can’t understand why you don’t have Windows Media Player installed. It’s sometimes possible to view the source of the page, find the URL of the stream and paste it into your media player of choice. However, there are certain evil sites (I’m looking at you, Australian Football League) where the feeds are so wrapped up in Flash and javascript and all manner of junk that this is not possible.

MediaPlayerConnectivity to the rescue. This plugin detects embedded streams and lets you open them in an external application. I can finally listen to live AFL coverage this season, though judging by the Swannies performance tonight, I’ve not missed much.
