One man writes Linux drivers for 352 USB webcams

This is not to be confused, as Slashdot has done, with 352 different drivers. It’s still a fine achievement though.

Imagine my surprise when, by pure chance, I found out last week that there are now Linux drivers for hundreds of those cheap webcams

Imagine my surprise that someone from a publication with “inquirer” in the title has just discovered a driver for his webcam that’s been in development for over 4 years. I’ve been an avid follower of Michel’s spca5xx project since I bought an Aiptek Pocket DVII back in 2001/2002. I found it via a simple Google search. The early versions were shaky, but it’s pretty solid now and part of the Linux kernel.
