It’s a big call…

…but Professor Grigg may be right when he states that:

No fish on earth is of more interest than Queensland lungfish…

This little creature has been in the news for some time now because a proposed dam has a good chance of driving it extinct. The logic of building a dam when there’s no rain to fall in it escapes me.

Anyone have a favourite fish that they feel is more interesting? Feel free to comment ;)

    If there was no rain falling, there’d be no river there to dam in the first place… of course, that doesn’t mean it should go ahead. I haven’t heard what the proposed cost is, but I hope the proposed users of the water are footing the bill. Unlikely though :(

    Well, not necessarily. The rain feeding the river can be falling elsewhere. Or the river can be fed by groundwater. By damming in an area with low rainfall, you just create a pool that promptly evaporates – as with our current dam reserves.
