    I emailed ABC news to enquire about their headline writing policy. They were good enough to reply and tell me that “the headline (and your subsequent email) generated quite a lot of discussion among members of the production team”. Ultimately their aim is to write headlines that lure readers, which is fair enough.
    I find news websites very responsive to reader comment on the whole, so I encourage people to participate if they have an issue with a story.
